As had been widely tipped, Brentford today completed the signing of Danish International defender, Andreas Bjelland, from FC Twente. The 26-year-old has 21 cap for his country, having also represented the Danes at both under-16 and under-18 level – so this really is a landmark signing by Brentford FC, who are believed to have smashed their transfer record to make the capture.
Marinus Dijkhuizen, Brentford FC Head Coach, has spoken about his delight in capturing such an experienced players, saying: “He brings a lot of experience to the squad and that is good for us as we have a lot of young players… He is good defender but also likes to play football from the back.”
The Bees defence came in for a lot of scrutiny at stages last season, and Mark Warburton swapped the partnerships fairly frequently as he tried to find the squad’s most effective central pairing – but it is clear that Bjelland has not come to West London to play second fiddle or jeopardise his chances of representing his nation at next summers European Championships in France, so who will be making way from the current trio? Tony Craig, Harlee Dean, or James Tarkowski?

I love these great new signings but we really need a big, experienced striker to help Gray out . Is there anyone on the horizon. Can’t wait for the new season to begin. Richard Bradbury. Limerick , Ireland.
ricky lambert anyone
will grigg knows his way to goal..maybe we should try him out again in a 4 3 3 set-up…I just felt rosler gave up on him too easily…
Rotating the central defenders is essential next season to avoid complacency and tiredness, to respond to suspensions and bans following dismissals, and to keep everyone on their toes. So the arrival of Andreas is not really a threat to Tarko or Harlee, but a compliment to their obvious talents and strengths.
At Championship level we simply can’t function with just two good central defenders. We all love Tony Craig and I would rank him as one of our very best players over the past period, but he is off the pace at Championship level and may need to accept his role is diminished. Surely another Kev in the wings, to inspire the next generation. in this role Tony Craig would be worth his weight in gold.
So no one should be surprised at signing a player in this position. The surprise is signing such a high-profile player who also knows he will need to make a serious impression with us in order for him to keep his position in the Danish national squad.
Are things beginning to look a little bit lively?

Without having seen the new signings yet, we can at least be impressed by the age of the signings. There is a clear path to success, which can only motivate the existing players and the new signings. Hopefully we can hold on to Button, Moses, Tarky, Jota and Gray.
