Our society is made up of all sorts of wonderful people. Male. Female. Black. White. Asian. South East Asian. Hispanic. Eastern European. Gay. Straight. Transgender. Disabled – both ‘traditionally’ disabled and those with ‘hidden’ disability. Plus many many more.
Do our terraces truly reflect the society we live in? … realistically ?? ….
If not, why not???
What can football authorities … football clubs … football fans …. potential new fans can do to change this???
The Football Supporters Federation and Kick It Out will host ‘Football fans and anti-discrimination’ – an evening which gives supporters the chance to discuss discrimination on and off the terraces and how we can challenge it in the modern context.
Endemic, wide-scale discrimination in the stands of the English leagues is thankfully a thing of the past. But that doesn’t mean isolated incidents don’t need to be challenged. How can fans take this on?
This free event forms part of Football Against Racism Eurpoe’s (FARE) Football People action weeks which see thousands of anti-racist activities and initiatives take place across Europe.
The FSF have pulled together a great panel which will be taking questions from the audience.
After the event there’ll be the chance to network and meet fans from other clubs.
“My role at the FSF and in partnership Kick It Out is to encourage more diversity and help improve understanding among supporters when it comes to embracing difference,”
“This promises to be a great night in a relaxed and informal environment, where people can discuss discrimination and football in a positive and engaging manner.”
Anwar Uddin, Diversity and Campaigns Manager at the FSF
