News has been flying around for a few days that Brentford are closing in on Swindon Town centre-back Darren Ward. With the ex-Millwall man apparently having talks at Griffin Park a few days ago, it seems that a move is imminent.

Ward is one of two players Brentford have targeted from Swindon in the close season. Captain Alan McCormack, who is just back from holidaying with in Mickey-mouse-land, is apparently due to complete a medical this week which will see him complete his move down the M4.

Interestingly, McCormack is 29 years and Ward 34 years old – an obvious attempt by Uwe Rosler to inject some well needed experience into the squad – the average age of which was under 23 years last season.

In the post Di Canio era, Swindon has been taken over by new owners who have been keen to reduce their wage bill and get the club running on an even keel. Over the next couple of months Swindon is likely to see the team dismembered piece by piece although they very recently renewed the contract of highly rated keeper Wes Foderingham.

Swindon fans are gutted and dejected at the prospect of losing their key players to the team who beat them home and away last season before knocking them out in the playoffs. When news broke of Brentford’s interest in Ward weeks after the McCormack coup.

On twitter-

@swinry :Brentford are the most annoying football team ever omg

@sardo02: Can’t believe that these jokers now running #stfc are willing to let Darren Ward go…not only that but it’s to Brentford again

@oliverhowitt: Biggest mistake is letting Darren Ward go. He and McCormack were heart of our team and now it’s been ripped out #stfc

@Badcock_: Darren Ward leaving makes me suicidal.

@RKirby95: Darren Ward has ruined next season

Needless to say, both players will be on the easyJet to Leipzig for the yearly Germany bonding session.
