Over the last couple of seasons, if you asked your average Brentford fan if they could name a player from the Women’s Team, the majority would probably have come up with the name of Chloe Logie. With 30+ goals in her breakthrough season two years ago, followed by an astonishing two 50+ goal seasons, her prolific goal scoring record led to her being voted “Supporters” Player of the Season” for the last two campaigns. All of which makes it very strange that she appears to have left Brentford without even a whisper from the Club’s official channels.

The start of this season followed the same sort of pattern as previous, with questions over whether Logie would stay for the upcoming campaign: with her enviable goal-scoring record she has consistently attracted attention from clubs higher up the ladder. However, Chloe and her family appreciated that Brentford were a team going places and she had a strong emotional attachment to the Club, having become close friends with several of her team-mates. But this summer has seen a lot of change at Brentford Women with Head Coach, Karleigh Osborne, stepping down; long-time captain, Mollie Holmes, retiring on a high and several long time stalwarts of the team moving on to pastures new: it felt like this may well be the time Logie decided to take up one of the opportunities offered to her & move up the pyramid.

Still, fans were hopeful when Chloe played in the first couple of pre-season games and hopes were high that she might stay when she played a key part in the promotional campaign for the new Third Kit. But then, she just disappeared. She didn’t feature in the last two pre-season games and eagle-eyed fans noticed that she wasn’t registered as a Brentford player for the new season on the FA website. It seemed just a matter of time before the inevitable social media postings announcing her exit and thanking her for all she had done – but there was silence. Nothing. Nil. Nada.

That was until Tuesday night when she made her debut for WNL side, Real Bedford: Logie, being Logie, of course, banged in a couple of goals. The following day, Real Bedford announced that she had signed for them. At this point, surely, there would be something from Brentford, but still, at the time of writing (Saturday evening), we’ve heard nothing. You must ask, what is going on? Is there something we don’t know? Is there a possibility that Logie may yet play again for the Bees (players can be dual-registered)? Are Brentford just trying to style out losing their star striker amidst a glut of strong new signings and hoping (vainly) that nobody notices? One things for sure, we could certainly do with some clarity on the situation.

Whatever the case, if Chloe Logie has indeed played her last game in the red and white of Brentford, it is safe to say that we’re unlikely to see a player as deadly in front of goal in either the Men’s or Women’s team again. We’ll certainly be watching her career with interest – at only 20 years old, the sky’s the limit for this remarkable young footballer.
