With all that’s been going on at the club this summer, Bees fans are anxious to see what the next chapter holds in the transfer market, ideally with links to players coming in, rather than leaving. And right now, Ipswich Town’s Omari Hutchinson could be on the radar on approach to the Gtech.

Reports suggest that Brentford failed to activate the £35 million relegation release clause in Hutchinson’s contract before it expired, with the Evening Standard reporting that the payment structure was the sticking point. Ipswich are now believed to value the 21‑year‑old closer to £40 million. The Bees are weighing up a new bid of around £37.5 million, they say, which would smash the club’s transfer record, beating the £30 million paid for Igor Thiago last summer.

Hutchinson scored three Premier League goals for Ipswich last season and played a key role in England Under‑21s’ European Championship triumph in June, scoring in the final against Germany. Born in London, he came through Arsenal and Chelsea’s academies before joining Ipswich permanently, but the season ended in relegation for the Tractor Boys.

According to multiple new outlets, Brentford’s plan is to move once Ipswich sign a replacement, although West Ham and Everton have also shown interest.

Bryan Mbeumo’s £65 million departure to Manchester United has undoubtedly left a major gap in Brentford’s attack on the right side and Hutchinson, with his pace, technical ability, and Premier League experience, certainly fits the profile to fill it.

Whether he’s worth close to £40m is another matter though, but if Brentford do land Hutchinson, it would be a statement signing and a clear sign the club is willing to invest heavily to stay competitive.

Fans will also be relieved that the focus is on potential arrivals rather than more departures… and that alone is enough to lift spirits around TW8 with the new season looming into view.
