Former Brentford striker, Lloyd Owusu, gave his honest thoughts on the Beesotted Radio Show on LoveSport (link below) on the alarming run of results since Thomas Frank has taken over the reigns at Griffin Park.

The first result I look for on a Saturday is always Brentford’s, so it’s been worrying to see, that since Dean Smith left, the team have slumped to eight defeats in ten matches – for a team of Brentford’s calibre, especially prior to this bad run, is really dramatic turn in form.

You have to stop and ask yourself what’s happened, for me, as an ex-player, you have to question whether the gaffer has changed the playing style, or are the players just not buying into the new gaffer’s philosophy. It can’t be that the players aren’t good enough, as they were doing it previously.

Also, Thomas Frank has been involved in the Brentford system for a couple of years, so there should’t be too much of a difference. Don’t get me wrong, each manager has their own ideas, and they like to add their own ingredients when they take over but, the at the end of the day, the players should be getting far better results than they have over the past eight to ten weeks – it’s just not good enough.

Having been the assistant manager, Frank should have been a go-to guy for the players and dealt with certain issues as the middle man between them and the head coach, so you have to question how hands-on he was with the squad off the training pitch. We can’t know that, or how influential he was with taking sessions etc, but we are seeing that stepping up to the top job – when your head is on the line – takes different skill sets and it is a different challenge.

And with these current results you would imagine his head is on the line. But, at the end of the day, the players sill have to respect the head coach position, regardless of whether they’ve been promoted from the assistant, from the youth team, or from another club – they have to make sure they perform themselves.

What we are seeing at Brentford right now is quite unique – we all know football is about getting results – and although the defeats, apart from one, have been by a single goal, with Brentford being in the games for decent spells, I feel that if Frank doesn’t get the results in the next few games, before the end of the year, the hierarchy may make another decision.

I’m am flying back to London for Xmas and will see the Bees play Bolton on Saturday, but I can’t wait to see some familiar, friendly faces at the Beesotted Christmas Bees-Up at the Fuller’s Brewery this Friday night where I will be on stage with my old team mate and good friend, Darren Powell.
