Beesotted contributor, Billy Taylor, scours the internet to dig up the latest Brentford-related gossip  from Twitter, Facebook, the Griffin Park Grapevine (GPG) and more.

Bastille Day, on July 14, saw Brentford add the latest Frenchman to our ranks with the signing of young forward Neal Maupay from Saint-Etienne for a reported fee of £1.6 million.

Many figures associated with the club seemed overwhelmed with the effort to bring Maupay to the club, this created quite the buzz among fans due to the ambition being shown for the upcoming season.

WANDERERPAUL: 
Good to see this one done! Pleased he chose us over someone else. Shows he wants to play and not just earn the cash sitting on his backside. 

BERKSBEE: Over the moon with this one, as I was with Motojko, I can’t quite decide which one I’m more pleased with!

It’s a very real statement of intent from the Management—they mean business this up-coming season. 

It’s hard to see another Championship squad shaping up better than ours in terms of sheer player quality on the pitch, style of football played, back room staff and management/coaching stability. It’s hard to believe, but Smith is fast becoming one of the longest serving managers in the Championship!

It wasn’t just our corner of West London that got excited about this deal as many others, including those abroad, and fans of our Championship rivals, took note of the great business Brentford had managed to accomplish – with not just this signing but also the overall building work that had gone into the squad. And even the Bees’ Director of Football’s long standing and most vociferous critics seem to be making attempts to sidle up to them now.

He goes onto say that he believes Maupay is the perfect fit for the Bees and will have great sell on value (Very much a reoccurring theme).

In other transfer related gossip , the Dofs attempt to bring Ollie Watkins to the club over the past two windows looks closer to being complete. Rumours coming out of Exeter City are that Brentford have agreed a fee with the Grecians for their youngster.

GAZZABEE: Much more realistic price with plenty of add ons I’d imagine – would be our business done I suspect assuming no exits

TOBEESOMEONE: We’ve recouped a fair bit on Gogia and Hoffman. Plus I think a few quid left to play with from the Hogan deal. I think it was stressed that we need a squad with more depth because we can no longer rely on the loan market. So I’m not sure any departures are necessary. But who knows

GLENISTERBEE: I was in Devon for the Exeter Carlisle playoff second leg game and spoke to Terry Bullivant. He is now Millwall chief scout and he confirmed we were still in for Watkins and the price was £2m. A fee of £1.4m with add ons would back that up. Watkins had a decent game that night. Big, muscular, holds the ball well. Could be great addition. Hope its true.

The transfer window is really picking up pace for the Bees and it naturally breeds excitement. However, with all these incoming’s some are left worried about what this means for our king.

 

RUBENHUTCHINSON :Smith said after the game that: “if no-one comes in with this imminent bid, that we were told about, he will be available for the Oxford game.” Jota apparently fine with this decision, and happy to play against Oxford.

SMIFFYBEE: 45 ish days remain for the Jota jitters

The “Jota jitters” appear to make people desperate…

As always at this time of year, the Brentford hardcore are left worrying about the next big exit from the club, but could this year be different? Although the Jota saga still looms large, a real sense of high optimism seems to be building at Griffin Park as you will see from Besotted’s weekend poll. Is  this season our time?
