I think your article is very good, but I take issue with your assertion that those who were very concerned with the misguided decision making by the owner and hierarchy at the start of this season, now recant their words; I for one do not, all was expressed sincerely and not lightly.
I too had grave reservations and voiced them, said that going ‘all out’ Continental was a mistake and even disagreed with the idea that the Head Coach (or whatever you want to call him) would not have a final say in the signings of new players.
The latter of those seems to have been fudged over with the appointment of Dean Smith who clearly does have a say in who comes in if his statements to us in the media are to be believed. And the first has also been adapted for a more balanced approach, witness the signing of Ryan Woods. Perhaps MB believes – like all the best Government leaks – in going to the extreme and then working back to find a happy equilibrium that we appear to have now.
The only words I think people should recant are the ones where people said they would turn their back on the club, as everything else is honestly held opinion and – I agree with you – completely valid.
I have two fears regarding loosing Judgy one in the transfer window and one knowing he will be a target for some crude tackles like the early treatment he got at Reading. I know many of us still remember Alan Mansley.
I agree with Roderic a good article, somewhat ruined by a persistent wish to disparage supporters who voiced concerns early this season. Not sure why Jim feels the need to do that just because some people had different opinions at that time. We all support Brentford and want the best for them, in my case for over 40 years. Jim was clearly full of confidence during August and September, but I was concerned having seen so much success in recent years and what seemed serious issues at that time. It didn’t mean I turned my back on Brentford, just that I was concerned at the way things were going, a view ultimately shared by the club as Marinus was replaced. Jim was more confident and all being well seems to have been correct in the prediction of long term prosperity. I have no desire to attack Jim for his views, just a bit sad that he seems to want to split Brentford’s excellent support. Cheer up Jim, hopefully you will be proved to be right in 2016 as well and the Bees will move ever onward and upward. Meanwhile try and encompass different views and take pleasure in debating them.
