Brentford have swooped to sign the Shrewsbury Town midfielder Ryan Woods in a deal believed to be around the £1m mark. Woods, who has already been dubbed the ‘Ginger Pirlo’ by some Bees fans, has come in for a lot of praise in the past couple of seasons, and his tenacious style is an ingredient that supporters have been calling out for since the departure of Jonathan Douglas to Ipswich Town.
Woods was singled out during The Shrews’ League Cup tie with Chelsea last season, and all Brentford supporters will be hoping that the following words will be repeated time and time again in a red and white shirt:
“Woods’s footballing intelligence wasn’t that of a League Two player, nor his technique. His ability to pick out a pass and make the right decision and then execute a ball well was impressive. He was up against Oscar in midfield and no word of a lie, I thought he didn’t look out of place alongside him. I thought, if both players were to swap teams, would you notice much of a difference? Now that is indeed some high praise and given his age, I fully expect him at a new club come the end of this season. The main challenge for Woods now is to maintain this level for the rest of the season.” The full article can be read here.
The transfer deadline is due to close shortly, with Brentford not thought to be adding to their long-weekend business (despite Tarki’s wind-ups on Twitter), in which they also secured the signatures of forwards Sergi Canos from Liverpool and Marco Djuricin from Red Star Salzburg.

Maybe every payer in our squad should be shown edited highlights of Lasse Vibe off the ball during the second half last Saturday on a loop replay. The guy is a leader who has more than a bit of grit between his spondulics. If everyone else acted and felt like he did during games when we were losing, we would be on our way.
I agree – Lasse had a great game last Saturday and was unlucky at Burnley too. Imagine him on one wing and Jota on the other. We have some great new signings. The transfer window was very disruptive – primarily due to the stupid money bring thrown at some clubs by the Prem league. The Prem is actually pretty predictable and boring – and not helpful to English football.
Let’s get behind Matthew and Marinus. Doggie will have the odd good game but basically he is past it. Andre was a great player for us but we got a great price for him. Colin looks a great right back.
Give them time – I think we could still have a great season.it might take a few weeks but I believe I can see green shoots! COYR!
