Brentford in £6m Bid for Highly Rated French Forward

Brentford have made a £6m bid for 19 year old Troyes forward Bryan Mbuemo

The versatile French U20 player scored 10 goals and made 3 assists in 35 games for the French Ligue 2 side.

Left-footed Mbuemo can play right wing and centre forward and is known for his trickery and skills. Check the video below to see Mbuemo in action

Brentford are not the only club in the race for the Mbuemo with Troyes rejecting a bid from Bordeaux earlier in the year and from Southampton last month.

Bundersliga teams Borrusia Monchengladbach, Wolfsburg and Shalke 04 are also said to be interested with French clubs Rennes, Nice, Marseille, Montpellier and Strasbourg also interested in capturing his signature – albeit with smaller budgets.

Mbuemo previously ruled out the idea of playing outside of France – hence knocking back a number of future employers. However,  the player knows that his next move will be critical and wants to join a club where he is guaranteed regular playing time – hence the reason why Brentford may be an attractive proposal.

Brentford have received a number of offers for striker Neal Maupay – none of which have come close to The Bees’ valuation of £20m. Said Benrahma and Ollie Watkins have also been linked with moves away from Griffin Park.

The tactic of not leaving yourself exposed is not new for Brentford – pro-actively signing players to replace potential leavers.

Dan Bentley’s sudden signing – surprising a balking-on-re-signing David Button – springs to mind as one such situation.

Shrewd activity in the transfer market in the past twelve months has put Brentford in a strong position financially – finding themselves in the black after sales of Chris Mepham (£15m), Ryan Woods (£6,). Lasse Vibe (£3m). Nico Yennaris (£4m), Dan Bentley (£3m) and Erzi Konsa (£12m).

However, the club – who are arming themselves for a promotion push – do not want to sell their prized assets and are willing to add players to the ranks to give the side a greater strength in depth this season.

Players added to the squad this summer include Pontus Jansson (£4m). David Raya (£2.5m). Ethan Pinnock (£3m). Christain Nørgaard (£3m) and Matthias Jenssen (£3.5m).

Adding the Frenchman to the growing list of signings will still have Brentford operating comfortably within their comfort zone without the need for selling anyone else.

If Mbuemo is suitably impressed by Brentford. And if we are the able to fob off the interests of chasing clubs and meet Troyes’ asking price, it will be interesting to see whether he will be playing alongside Maupay and Watkins and Benrahma.

Or instead of.

And if we don’t sign him, this £6m bid is a massive sign of intent.

Whatever happens over the next few days, it’s exciting times at Brentford. There has certainly been a sea change.

It would be fantastic if we can start this campaign with the bulk of our squad intact.

But if one or two players decide they will be better off playing elsewhere, so be it.

Best of luck to them.

Because our best chance of making a successful challenge in the Championship this year – which is going to be be tough no two ways about it – will be with players who WANT to play for Brentford.

We can’t be carrying any passengers.
