As mentioned on Beesotted Twitter last week, it would appear that Brentford have agreed a £2.8m deal with Fiorentina to sign Danish midfielder Christian Norgaard. The talented 25-year-old has represented his country at almost every international level and has already enjoyed an impressive career, having played for Hamburg SV and was a fan-favourite at Bronby, where he played under Bees head coach Thomas Frank, before a €3.5m move to Italy for a season-long stint with Fiorentina.
Having Thomas Frank at the Brentford helm, not to mention Rasmus Ankerson as one of the club’s Director of Football, would have been instrumental in this signing – Norgaard will also have been encouraged by the numerous other Danes at Griffin Park who, no doubt, put in a good word about the Bees. We spoke about the likely summer transfers in this week’s end of season podcast which you can hear by clicking the link below.
The signing, when confirmed by the club, would be seen as a real sign of intent for the season to come – an experienced defensive midfielder will add to our strength in depth and better prepares us for any potential departures. A player of Norgaard’s calibre could also encourage other players to sit up and take note of Brentford.
