Spot on Jim. It seems strange to have a long term vision with a coach who only wants to be in the role to the end of the season. This must and will impact on the players and their performance.
The statement by the Chairman did little to add confidence. I really really hope for the best but fear the worst.
Being a lifelong fan the support for the team won’t change – it certainly is not the players fault!
Listen mate – you either buy into the club’s new philosophy or you don’t but all that contradictory nonsense about I support Matthew’s approach but now is the time to pause and ease the stats and foreign policy just grates. The saddest thing for me is that there is a huge schism developing in the fanbase between the pros and the antes because the club hasn’t been savvy enough in its PR. That has only been exacerbated by what’s gone on both on and off the pitch this season.
I think what he’s suggesting is that it doesn’t have to be immediate change but a more gradual integration in order to stop the rot and begin to stabilise us in the short term. Then slowly ease in the changes of philosophy rather than trying to rush everything through as it has been which clearly hasn’t worked.
Great piece IMO.
Too much change generates lack of focus, which combined with a lack of strong management skills generates failure. We need a ruthless focus now, a plan on how to stay up, and if anything has to be sacrificed for the sake of this plan, however sacred, so be it. We also need much better and open communications to unite the fans behind the plan. Now is not the time for working out what went wrong.
Has anyone heard of the expression ‘fortune favours the brave’. Well, if nothing else Benham is brave, he is visionary and he is confident. Many of us disagreed that Warbs should be discarded, but he was unfortunately – but he is gone and all anyone can do now is look forward and make sure the future is successful. He has also tipped in more cash than most of us would see in a lifetime and will continue to do so in the short term, so he is allowed to make bold moves. Without Benham there would probably be no Brentford FC today.
Just a pity the Chairman did not leave in the same taxi as the Coach.
this time last year we laughed at F”””ham and they got rid of their unsuitable coach , Magath , and promoted from within..a tweak of the playing staff and looks like they are , sadly , in a better position than ourselves…its still early days and although deeply disappointing we can still bounce back . We have been told this is all part of a 3 year plan to get us into premiership in Lionel Road , so we must still stick with Benham there seems no other option for the long term
AT last some rational comments
