Brentford and Sheffield Wednesday contrived to cancel each other out under the Griffin Park floodlights on Tuesday evening in what proved to be a tough fight for a share of the spoils. The Owls are a big, physical side, but can certainly play a bit too in phases – but the Bees were left ruing a golden chance to snatch the win when Nick Proschwitz squandered at the death.

The Bees started brightly and, for the first 20 minutes or so, really took the game to Wednesday, but despite some typically-Brentford attacking football, it was to be a frustrating evening for the front men of both sides – the highlight of the opening period was when Jota produced some magic to tee up Andre Gray – but the goal was ruled out for offside by the officials – a decision that Mark Warburton disputed after the match.

Wednesday hit the post after 36 minutes and went close on a couple of other occasions in front of a large travelling band of supporters, but neither side could really find that added bit of quality in the final third when it mattered.

Without sounding like a broken record, it is very difficult not to point out that, once again, a cutting edge was all that separated Brentford from another home win as, overall, the Bees had the lion’s share of the action and possessed the most attacking intent – it was a similar story at Wigan on Saturday.

Big Nick will also not need reminding that he should have made a name for himself by scoring the winner… it really was a let-off for Wednesday and was what most fans were talking about when they left the ground.

It is the type of chance we simply need to be converting at this level. Wednesday fans we talked to after the game described it as a shocking miss”

Over all, though, it was another entertaining Championship match and another point chalked up on the board, but you can’t help wondering if, and more to the point how, Mark Warburton is going to solve this impotence up top.
