Obviously gaining three valuable on Saturday was all that really mattered, but just as importantly in my view, and also very reassuringly, the Bees not only got back to winning ways, in the second period in particular, they got back to thrilling ways too.
Mark Warbuton’s post match comments following the Carlisle draw were correct – teams are certainly trying to set themselves up to frustrate Brentford rather than take them on in an open game of football – which is a backhanded compliment – and Bradford came to Griffin Park intent on not losing rather than with ambitions of a win.
I won’t deny that, based on history, there was a few concerns regarding how the Wolves defeat, and Orient’s resurrection, would affect the players, so the victory over the Bantams was a big relief. Against ‘third division’ opposition we look so strong, and even if Tranmere do come to GP on Tuesday evening intent on stifling and containing, there should, all being well, be enough chances created to see them off too.
If so, and if the midweek fixtures go our way elsewhere too, we can then look forward to the mighty, mighty showdown with Orient on Saturday, where the Bees have some unfinished business to address.
