Wolves Show They’re The Real Deal – Wanderers 3 Brentford 0

Spread the love

Brentford travelled to Molineux on Tuesday evening on a bit of high after a thrilling Christmas schedule had delivered a three out of three haul, however, in Wolves, the Bees came up against the most complete team in the Championship, a team destined to win the title this season. It was one hurdle too high for Dean Smith’s players.

To their credit, the Bees took the game to Wolves as best they could, and there was no intention of trying the park the proverbial bus at any stage in what proved to be an end to end encounter.

The Bees looked bright, especially in the first half, but all the slick approach play and intelligent passing, ultimately came up a gold coloured brick wall, while at the other end, Dan Bentley was forced into a string of fine saves to keep the scores level at the break.

Wolves went for the jugular after the interval and two goals in as many minutes just before the hour mark – a great free kick by Neves on 57 and stonker by Barry Douglas – pretty much killed off any realistic chance of at least a point for Brentford. The third, by (the fake) Jota with ten minutes to go, a more scrambled effort from a corner, was no more than Wolves deserved to be honest. On another night, or with another goalie between the sticks, the Bees could have been on the end of a real hiding.

That’s not to take anything away from Brentford, we just came up against THE team of the Championship at the end of a tiring, yet otherwise perfect Christmas… and there’s no need to get disheartened either. Bees fans were in philosophical and honest moods after the match, as you will hear in the Beesotted Pride of West London post match podcast (link above).

We’ve now seen the standard required to WIN the Championship… there are no other sides in the division up to that level and we have nothing to fear in taking our game to the rest and building on the positivities of the past month. The Bees are perfectly poised for a real play-off push and we have nothing to fear when playing any side from here on in.

January will be an interesting month… the transfer window is open, Marcondes and Judge will come more to the fore, we may lose on or two, but with the FA Cup providing a welcome distraction this weekend, the team can regroup and lick their Wolves wounds and get ready to go again in the Championship when we take on Bolton at Griffin Park.

The Bee Job Question

The Bee Job Question

Three weeks ago I had a job interview. An interview for a job I was actually quite interested in, rather than just being a way out of the harrowingly dull, underachieving job I have at the moment. I have by me now the letter that arrived today, which will tell me...

The Great Brentford Song Scam

The Great Brentford Song Scam

For years Brentford fans have constantly been evolving the songs they employ to support their team. Scientists and historians, such as myself, rarely take an interest in such forms of tribal worship. But, after being approached by Beesotted to take a closer look at...

Thought Bees were one of the liveliest and possibly most creative attacking teams to visit the Molineux so far – we had our hands full in the first so a big credit to your players and fans alike who made a lot of noise. First half you gave us a run for our money and with performances like that there is no reason you wont continue up the table – better football than most of the sides above you to be fair. Good luck for the rest of the season .

Good to see a team come here and make an effort to play the game. Closed us down well in the first half but the double strike made the difference. Your fans also very vocal from the North Bank so credit to them too. You should do OK as most teams we have played have not shown much more than Brentford so best of luck for the rest of the season.

Absolutely astounded at the comments from Bees fans today, fair play guys, all really nice complimentary comments coming out. Nice to hear such things from truly genuine fans.
Your fans there last night certainly did you proud and the team were 100% the best footballing side we’ve played this season.
We want your Ginger midfielder, he’s amazing and would slot into our side seemlessly.

Genuine best wishes and good luck for the season, a great game of footy from two sides who wanted to put a show in. 100% entertainment.

Such a nice change for a team to come and not try and park the bus or kick the team off the pitch. Plus honest talk from the fans and manager alike. You came to play and gave a good account on all fronts, I really hope you get a top 6 slot ahead of the likes of Cardiff and BC. It would be nice to see a decent club getting up there as well. We are by no means promoted but fair play to all associated with your club and all the best for the rest of the season
