With a little over 20 minutes to go at Walsall on Saturday afternoon something happened that encapsulates exactly why this Brentford team have kicked on since Uwe Rosler’s departure to Wigan Athletic – a self-confident, less risk-averse attitude by the manager.

Uwe will always be remembered as a positive step forward for our football club, even if he is turning provider to poacher, but in Mark Warburton’s place at Fellows Park at the weekend, I would wager a decent sum that, with the scores tied at one-all against one of the handier sides in the division, away from home, and after a run of eight straight League wins, Rosler would have tried to shut up shop and opted for the olde Bullseye cliché: ‘thanks Bob (okay Dean), we’ve had a lovely day out, we’ll take a point home… Great, lovely, super, smashin’!’

I’m sure that, at some stage, Warburton’s ‘keep the opposition on the back foot’, ‘let the buggers worry about us’ mentality will see us lose from a drawing position rather than grab a win, but as a fan of thirty-plus years, it’s times like these, and a winning attitude like we have right now, that make the ‘Scott/Butcher/insert-yer-own-personal-worst-manager’s-name-here’ years all semi-worthwhile.

As Brentford fans we’ve by now become accustomed to the talent the class of 2013/14 possesses (not taken it for granted mind you) and, as the rest of the football world wakes up and smells the coffee, realising there is a new dawn rising in TW8, we must continue to push on, push up, and tuck in to as many three-point hauls as we can.

Depending on our results against Leyton Orient, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Rotherham in the coming weeks and months (to name but three), and on the back of a stunning run that has seen us take 41 points from a possible 45, the reality is that we could be ‘just’ ten wins and a scattering of draws away from automatic promotion.

Okay, in reality we may need a few more points in the bag than that, and there’s a huge amount of work to be done to see the Bees achieve what we all want so badly, but it is a ‘come and have a go if you think you’re good enough’ outlook that will achieve the ultimate prize.

Mark Warburton said after the game at Walsall: “”We have Gillingham in our sights and that’s our only focus now.” What he didn’t say was that those sights are trained on attacking from start to finish and putting the Gills under all kinds of pressure… Bring it on and make sure you’re there!
